This is the day of Jesus’ crucifixion. This is a day, not to celebrate... but to mourn and observe what our Lord and Savior sacrificed on the cross ➕

You must believe!

  • If you are a Christian, and you believe that the Lord Jesus Christ Is the Eternal Son Of God, and that He died for all your sins, then for you, Good Friday is the most sorrowful, the most solemn, and yet, one of the holiest days of the entire year (Luke 19)

Although it is not certain that His crucifixion actually took place on a Friday, one way we can tell that it did is to understand that Jesus descended into hell for 3 days, which would be until Sunday. Back in that time, the Jews considered even part of a day to be a full day. Many believe that Jesus might’ve died around 3pm on that Friday, He was in the grave Saturday, and on Sunday He rose again.

Why is it called “Good” Friday?

  • Definition of Good Friday - Comes from the obsolete sense "pious, holy" of the word "good". Less common examples of expressions based on this obsolete sense of "good" include "the good book" for the Bible, "good tide" for Christmas, and Good Wednesday for the Wednesday in Holy Week.

For many Christians, this is not a good day, but the results of Jesus’ death are very good in fact! This is explained in (Romans 5:8): “But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Then in (1 Peter 3:18), it is reiterated again: “For Christ died for sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God. He was put to death in the body but made alive by the Spirit.” Others believe that His death was an act of love and that is why it is called good.

How to observe this day...

Like I mentioned previously, this day is not one to be celebrated, but to be mourned and observed. In some countries this day is an actual holiday. Because of the Coronavirus, many of you will not be able to spend Holy Week with your loved ones. Although you cannot be together worshipping, you can still worship at home. The internet is a great resource! Here are a few ways that you as a Christian can observe Good Friday...

1. Stream an online church service

  • Elevation Worship LIVE Services on YouTube - one of my favorites to watch LIVE on Sundays as well as live repeats and messages throughout the week. There are tons of other channels on YouTube that also stream LIVE services so finding one shouldn't be hard!

2. Watch Biblical movies

Here are a couple links to some of my FAVORITE Biblical movies that you can stream right from YouTube! Most of them are a couple hours long so reserve some time to watch and enjoy them!

3. Fasting

  • Some people don't eat at all on this day

  • Others eat very lightly

  • You can even eat 1 large meal and then 2 smaller meals that together don't together equal up to the biggest meal. This be be over the span of Friday and Saturday.

4. Pray & Reflect

  • At 3pm, stop whatever you are doing and say a prayer. This is the time that Jesus died on the cross

  • Throughout the day take time to remember what Jesus did for you and thank Him!

  • You can even take Holy Communion as you read from (1 Corinthians 11)

5. Read your Bible

Here are 7 passages that relate to Good Friday...

  • Matthew 26:26-29

  • Mark 15:21-41

  • Isaiah 53:3-7

  • John 11:48-53

  • Romans 5:12-15

  • 2 Corinthians 4:7-12

  • Hebrews 2:9-11

6. Listen to worship music

  • You can choose from the list on my homepage

  • Download the KLove app and stream from any smart device or tune into it on your radio!! Check their site for channels near you!

  • Browse through billions of songs on YouTube

7. Wear black clothes

  • Do this in order to mourn Jesus' death

  • Some people also cover their cross with a black vail
