Celebrate Easter at Home

Writer's picture: Kristi BrownKristi Brown

Today we celebrate Christ's victory over death and the eternal life that is granted to all who believe! "He is not here; he has risen, just as he said." (Matthew 28:6)

Today is Easter, also called Pascha (Greek, Latin) or Resurrection Sunday. Easter is not a day to just celebrate once a year, but everyday we should be waking up thanking God for what He has done. This year, due to the Coronavirus, you may not be able to be with the ones that you love, so here are some ways that you can celebrate at home!

Celebrate from home...

1. Fun with Easter eggs

For Christians, the Easter egg is symbolic of the resurrection of Jesus Christ. The egg symbol was likened to the tomb from which He arose. Some believe that since you are forbidden to eat eggs during lent, so people would paint and decorate them to mark the end of the period of penance and fasting.

  • Painting Easter eggs is an especially beloved tradition in the Orthodox and Eastern Catholic churches where the eggs are dyed red to represent the blood of Jesus that was shed on the cross. This practice dates back to at least the 13th century

  • Easter egg hunts are fun when you have little ones! Just fill up some plastic eggs with candy/money and hide them around the house or in the yard. Easter candy is the second best selling candy holiday in America after Halloween.

  • if you have little ones then lead them with the eggs to their Easter basket, or however you choose to present them

2. LIVE Stream a church service

  • I recommend YouTube for the best LIVE services. Simply click on the link and in the search bar type in "Live Easter Sevices" then goto the filters for the search and scroll to Live. After choosing that, you will be redirected to a complete list of services.

  • You can even start a watchparty on your social media platforms in order to celebrate with the ones that you love and can't be around right now due to quarantine.

  • Video chats are becoming more popular today more than ever and it’s a great way to see others so you can share this holiday with them

3. Dress up even if you're alone!

  • If you've been rocking your social-distancing look of yoga pants and bedhead, Easter is the opportunity to shake up your quarantine routine

  • This goes for you as well guys!! A nice button down and some khakis will be just fine

4. Give an offering

  • Find a church online or any other cause that you can donate to and give back. A little generosity goes a long way!

5. Celebrate with a feast

  • Get out of all of the fine china and use a tablecloth

  • Bake a ham - this type of meat is usually eaten as a substitute for lamb and is in season. It is also easy for farmers to store during the winter months by curing it.

  • Get some fresh flowers from outside and place them on the table

  • Use classic Easter recipes that you can find online to create a meal that you and whoever you spend this holiday with will enjoy for years to come

  • Play some worship music while you are eating so that you are constantly reminded of the love that Jesus has for us all Stop back at the homepage To stream my worship playlist and download for free if you’re a member
